Extensive oral history of Dewey "Pigmeat" Markham (1904-1981) of Bronx, N.Y., originally of Durham N.C. Markham was an African American medicine show and vaudeville performer, singer, dancer, and comedian. The oral history focuses on his career, his early work in medicine shows and in carnivals, and his later work on Broadway and on radio and television.
